Educating Children With Special Needs

Many families are educating children with special needs. Like most homeschooled children, these children generally do well in the home environment with love and nurturing from their parents.

Homeschooling special needs children come with its own challenges. Finding resources can be exciting, yet frustrating.

Check this space often, as we will be adding many new features. This is just the beginning of a great adventure for you and your child, and we are excited to travel with you along the way.

Click on the links below to access the resources for educating children with special needs.

CHASK - Christian Homes And Special Kids - adoption/special needs children.

HSLDA - Struggling Learners - Hundreds of families are homeschooling children whose special needs range from attention deficit disorder to severe multiple handicaps. Parents often find that when they bring these children home to be educated, they come out of the "deep freeze" that has kept them from making significant progress in traditional settings.

Math-U-See - Math•U•See is being used with special educational students, and we are seeing great results.

Present the new concept to your students using these three presentation models:

• Build it: Demonstrate how to use the blocks (or fraction overlays) to solve the problem

• Write it: Show the problems on paper as you build them, step-by-step.

• Say it: Explain the "why" and "what" of the math you are doing.

By using Build, Write and Say, you are helping the students to use their eyes, ears and hands to learn.

NATHHAN - NATional cHallenged Homeschoolers Associated Network

NATHHAN'S Goal and Purpose is to encourage homeschooling families with special needs children, in ways that glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and equip parents to confidently raise their children with special needs or disabilities.

The National Academy for Child Development - The NACD Program is based on the philosophy that all children – challenged, typical or gifted – can learn faster and accomplish more if they are provided the opportunity. The key to success is the parents.
