Advantage of Homeschooling
Each advantage of homeschooling is priceless. Homeschooled children receive an education tailored to their specific needs, interests, personalities and learning styles.
Homeschooling statistics are on the rise. More families are recognizing the benefits to homeschooling and are making changes in their life styles to accommodate the advantages of homeschooling.
Do not worry about adjusting to what other homeschoolers do. Just as each family is unique, you and your family have your own reasons, benefits and advantages of homeschooling.
Your children are also unique. They have their own learning styles just as you will have your own teaching style.
No one knows your children better than you; hence no one can educate them better. You know their needs, likes, dislikes, personality and what is best for them. Your goal is happy, educated children who love to learn.
Although the advantages of homeschooling differ from family to family, the results are all the same, “everlasting”.
Advantages (Pros) of Homeschooling
1. Spend More Time With Your Children
All the benefits to homeschooling are important, however to me this is the “icing on the cake”, the one that drives my efforts every day. In other words this one is the most important advantage of homeschooling.
As many of us say, “time flies”. Well, guess what? It does indeed fly.
Before you know it, your children will be on their way to build their future on their own, which is one of the reasons why you should focus on their education and on preparing them to “face the real world”.
2. Strengthening Family Bonds
For many homeschoolers, one of the greatest benefits of homeschooling is the strengthening of family bonds.
Because the children have a flexible schedule to match their parents work or special interests, families have more time together, which essentially turn into tighter bonding and stronger relationships.
The stronger the family bonds, the more they learn to respect each other and people outside their immediate family circle.
Respect for each other…now that sounds like a wonderful advantage of homeschooling to me!
3. Save Money
Saving money is not only another benefit to homeschooling; it's also one of the most overlooked homeschooling facts.
“Back-to-School”…these words remind me of those holiday specials retailers put out to make money.
The list of things children need/want to go back to school is endless. Many parents with children in the public or private school systems require specific materials. The supply list can add up to enormous amounts of money.
4. Confidence
Confidence is another great advantage to homeschooling. Homeschooled children are often very confident in everything they do.
Children learn by example. When they are surrounded by positive influences, they learn to be and accept themselves the way they are.
They become leaders and understand what they are capable to accomplish. Socializing with different age groups provides the confidence to face the real world which is our main goal as parents.
5. Flexibility
In today’s world flexibility may be the most popular advantage of homeschooling. Many families list flexibility as their main benefit to homeschooling.
• The freedom and flexibility homeschooling provides allows children to focus on their interest and passions.
• They can pursue a variety of extracurricular activities while still maintaining their academic endeavors.
• Other reasons flexibility can be a major advantage of homeschooling is the change in job markets. People can relocate their families and not have to worry about taking their children out of school too early.
• Vacationing is another advantage of homeschooling flexibility. You can take time off while public/private schools are still in session. This in return helps you save money because you avoid the travelling “high peak” seasons.
Did Someone Say "Vacationing"?
Yes, reward your children, family and yourself for all the hard work and achievements. Now that sounds like an advantage of homeschooling!!!
Although the pros of homeschooling outweigh the potential so called "cons" of homeschooling, there are many people that will tell you why you shouldn’t homeschool.
Disadvantages (Cons) of Homeschooling?
I’ve gathered some of the most common comments and questions people have approached me with, either as an excuse as to why they don’t homeschool or sometimes in an effort to get me out of homeschooling.
Each potential con of homeschooling is presented with a positive twist so you are prepared to overcome each one and turn them into an advantage or pro of homeschooling instead.
What about it? Are you kidding me? Because homeschooled children are not behind a desk almost all day long, they are encourage to explore their interest, by visiting different places and speaking to people of all ages and genders.
This enriches their confidence and vocabulary level by engaging in different conversation levels. People usually reflect on those words and go on to the next question or comment.
2. I couldn’t spend 24/7 – 365 days a year with my children. I’ll go crazy!
Crazy? I don’t see spending 24/7 – 365 days a year with your children a con of homeschooling.
God gave you your children so you raise them, not strangers. This is actually an advantage of homeschooling, not a con.
3. My relatives will think I’m crazy.
Just say, “thank you so much for your concerns”. Be kind and be firm in your commitment to homeschool.
Explain each advantage of homeschooling and when they see the progress, they will understand and not think you’re crazy anymore.
The ones you can’t win over? Well, there is not much you can do about them. Just accept them and get on with life.
With relatives and friends preying on your doubts, the important thing to remember is NOT to lose focus on your main goal, your children’s education.
4. I can’t homeschool, I'm afraid to make mistakes.
Do you think teachers in public schools are perfect and don’t make mistakes? That’s what I thought!
Not to worry. I’ve made mistakes and probably have plenty more to make, and so do you.
The important thing to take away is to realize it was a mistake, learn from it and not do it again. This is a fabulous way to teach your children confidence, and how to deal with the REAL WORLD.
5. How can I work and Homeschool?
Good time management. Let’s face it; you can do whatever you set your mind to.
Stay positive and manage your time wisely by working while your children sleep either early in the morning or after they go to bed at night.
Financial burden does not have to be a con of homeschooling. Nowadays there are many legitimate work at home programs or businesses for parents. Most homeschooling parents are work at home Moms and Dads. Find the one that fits your lifestyle and needs.

P.S. There is not enough room in the entire "web world" to mention all the advantages of homeschooling...they are endless!
P.S.S. My main goal is to help you understand why millions of parents are passionate about helping their children get a better education, and make the world a better place!
